Renewable Marine Energy

In 2008, DCNS started working on renewable marine energy, an area in which there are significant technological and industrial synergies with naval defence. DCNS is investing in three major technologies:

  • tidal-current energy – converted using tidal turbines;
  • ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) – which exploits water temperature gradient for the continuous production of electricity; and
  • offshore floating wind energy – converted using floating wind turbines.
